Rock(like)band Meet & Greet: Max.
The drummer of the band is Max (a.k.a. ‘jacket potato’). Bald with a very well trimmed beard he is what critics have said:
‘the first hipster of the group; way before that was cool and way after’.
He is wearing Hugo Boss in this photo but that is usually not his style. He is more of an ‘ironic T-shirt and jeans guy’, as he puts it. During the interview his shirt says: Some brave patatas bravas.
He has a bicycle and whenever the band is not on tour he grows his own carrots on his rooftop terrace. ‘I like playing around with dirt. Eating organic and the environment is important to me’, Max firmly states. ‘I used to be very into global warming, but these last couple of months I have been fascinated by fighting climate change. I just wish everyone would be more green’, he almost whispers. As he has been arrested for driving under the influence of weed, we were going to ask him what he exactly means with ‘being green’ but the pr-lady has been giving us the evil eye during this whole interview so no luck there for our readers.
‘Maybe I learned playing the drums to get girls’, Max says, ‘but deep down I am a total nerd, I love reading [red. mainly comic books, according to sources in the band] and I have worn glasses since I was 17.’
Aside from his self-proclaimed ‘nerdy side’ and trouble of getting girls to like him Max used to be a Calvin Klein model in his early twenties, right before joining the band.
We asked him if it isn’t a little bit hypocritical to both be talking about being authentic and not liking anything ‘commercial’ and earn a lot of money on the side playing the guy in the Coco Cola light commercials. Max started to answer our question but we were interrupted by the pr-lady telling us this was not part of the agreement. So for now, we’ll never know. Max did show us his vinyl record collection though, including Britneys Spears’ ‘Out from Under’ and several rare recordings of Meatloaf albums.
It’s all about the new album. ‘As a drummer, I am really into the beat’, Max shifts his glasses, comes closer before revealing his little secret. ‘You know, our second album ‘Dirty Songs from Down Below’, I wrote the lyrics to two of the ballads. ‘Out grown you [red. with the controversial music video], and
‘Sprouting Love [red. rumored to have been about the then girlfriend of lead singer Steve, which almost made the band split up].
When asked if he always knew he was going to be in such a music sensational rock band Max is very humble. ‘I always knew I’d outgrown the ordinary. I wasn’t going to be a regular guy and have no cookie cutter career.’ He was going to live! ‘Life! To the Max!’ Yes, Max is a special boy. We heard from other members of the band that you take the longest getting ready, what are your beauty secrets? ‘I take taking care of myself very seriously. I eat healthy all organic food and every morning I splash cold water on my face, and to keep my hair in perfect shape I use a special lotion to treat the roots.
